Happy May Day!
A new month so I made a new wallpaper calendar using the design tools at Canva.com They have so many templates which make great starting points, which you can then adapt in a million different ways to make the designs truly your own….and best of all it’s completely free to use (I’m not being sponsored, I just love it)
I really wanted to make the image very bright and cheerful this month. Spending so much time on my laptop recently makes me yearn for a colourful pick-me-up as soon as it fires up.
My first idea was the Gemini star sign, although I don’t really follow horoscopes, it popped into my mind because May is my birthday month. So twins of some kind… Looking back through older designs I chose a paper collage of a turquoise-faced cat from a few years ago. After editing the cat in a different programme to change the colour of the face both versions were uploaded to Canva and given a floral makeover for May. The original version already had a crown, and only now has it occurred to me how topical that is, since there’s some sort of coronation event going on in London next week, I hear…? Or they could just be May Kings/Queens/Persons. I like that idea much better since May Day is traditionally a holiday for workers and ordinary people, and that’s much more in line with my ideas about equality and democracy. Whoever these cool cats are they know how to enjoy themselves and they’re feeling quite frisky out there in the shrubbery and floral beds bathed in the yellow glow of May. Now, if only that sunny glow could be extended to the real world, where a heavy grey cloud is currently loitering with intent!
Feel free to use the calendar on your own desktop, either by right-clicking it to save, or downloading the hi-res version here.

I’ve been running a Spring SALE over the weekend, which was due to end at noon today, but have decided to extend it until midnight since you might only be hearing about it now. There’s 20% off EVERYTHING, and you don’t need a code - the discount is automatically applied at checkout. You can find all the lovely discounted art and gifts here.
Thank you for letting me share some of my thoughts with you.
The plan for the next few days is to reduce screen time and get back to painting. Selling a couple of paintings this week has given me the boost of confidence I need.
I hope you also make something you love doing a top priority. YOLO and all that!
