I’m definitely an introvert, are you?
I made this design for a recent Gocco printing session at Out of the Blueprint at Abbeymount Studios in Edinburgh. You have to supply your design as a PDF file a couple of days in advance of the printing session. The mesh screen is created for you, ready to be attached to a printing frame when you arrive. Probably because it was my first time I had a bit of a mental block about what to print and I wasted a lot of time changing my mind but this idea finally came to me at the 11th hour! It’s the first time I’ve printed my own design onto fabric by hand so I decided to try out a few different materials to see how they turned out. My intention was to turn them into wall hangings, in time for the Neighbourgood market on Saturday. Frustratingly, I’m not sure I’ll get them ready in time now since I’ve got a mega-long list of stuff to do in the next few days! I thought my preparations would be further along but a lot of last week was spent tidying and sorting in my workroom so I could make space to get my table fully extended in order to do a mock-up of my display. When I did fairs regularly I had a pretty good idea of how to set up my stall but it’s been a few years!
Slight panic aside, I’m actually really looking forward to it! When you work by yourself 99% of the time it’s great to have a day out talking to people about what you make and it’s also a brilliant feeling when people like what you do enough to spend their hard-earned cash on it.
This is an open-air craft market, which runs alongside a food and drink event, so there will be plenty to see, do, buy, and eat on the day. Come along if you can! Fingers crossed there will be good weather. It’s been fantastic for the past few days so with any luck that will continue.
I’ll let you know how it goes,
