Making a Painting : 8th May 23

An hour and a half of painting in two minutes 40 seconds
2

Hello there! Here's something a little different…painting in action. I'm painting on a small 7 x 5 inch canvas covered board, which I'd already added layers of paper collage and acrylic paint to. I'm thinking about the sea, harbours, boats and floats, as I add more acrylic paint and make oh so many changes along the way.

When I showed this to my other half he said watching it was anxiety inducing. I know what he means. Will there be a happy ending? You take a chance with every dab of the brush. Improvement…? Disaster…? There's no going back either way, even if you want to. You can try and scrape the paint back or scrub it off but that version of the painting has gone forever and all you can hope for is somehow the right marks will be made and you will have the wisdom to recognise when to lay the brushes down before it turns in to a massive muddy mess!

See finished painting here

There are five more of these small paintings to work on so that's going to keep me occupied this week, and hopefully there'll be time for some sewing too.

Until next time, take care
