October Vibes
So dear reader, autumn is upon us, and how beautiful it is!
The last few days have been cooler, but clear and bright. There are newly fallen leaves strewn over pavements, which rustle and crunch as you walk. Trees are tentatively trying on new outfits with dabs of red, orange, and bright yellow before they decide it’s all change and they shed their leaves completely. Every week the scenery looks fresh and different, and I love seeing that transformation. When I lived in the city it wasn’t something I paid much attention to but now I’m grateful for it.
With the new season, there’s a new term vibe going on around here. After a few weeks of intensive tidying and finishing off odd jobs, the house is for once, very organised. All rooms are clutter-free and usable for their intended purpose and as a result, I’m much calmer. I have more head-space for getting down to work - creative work and getting the business side of things ship-shape again. In truth, I haven’t had much motivation in a very long time. Everything has seemed too uncertain.
I set a manageable goal to list 30 items to my online shop during October and made a good start by adding seven archive abstract mixed-media collages. They’re from back in 2019. For a while, I was working on a paper collage every morning. It felt a lot like playing; moving the painted paper pieces around mindfully until the composition was something that spoke to me. Some were left completely abstract and others suggested still-lives so I worked into them, adding shapes, textures, and colours, mainly with acrylic paints. One of my favourites from the series is Mind On Fire, below. Pink and orange paint together is just so exciting…or is that just me?
Seeing them again reminds me I need to paint soon, but my plan for this week involves fabric and dye…
Goodbye for now, thanks for reading. If you have time please hop over to my website to see more newly available collages, or to stay in touch sign up for free emails below.
