Thanks so much Ursula! I was also surprised by how much I managed to get done, although it took me unril the middle of the week to catch up with all the housework etc that usually gets done 😂
What a dear little book you have made Julia. I loved seeing it as a whole. I loved seeing how you chose to compose your spreads, including their sequence, making your result so cohesive. Your palette is so joyful and the video really showed the silver leaf to advantage. Rereading your notes on the sketchbook weekend page helped me to understand how working on most of your pages at the same time, and your limited palette, helped you to accomplish so much. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous work. Really a joy!
P.S. If what you're hinting at that's "possibly even more exciting" than a shed is what I think it it, we've just ordered the same thing LOL. And it is terribly exciting! I look forward to seeing your next post,
Thank you very much for your wonderful feedback Lorraine. I've never been someone who has flashes of inspiration...I'm much more of a plodder, so am glad to have found a way to build up pages that suits my style. My 'not shed' has wheels! Hope you enjoy your 'not shed' when it arrives. Exciting times ahead! ☺
I'm thinking of borrowing your multiple pages idea. It would suit allowing things to dry. And it wouldn't hurt organizing book pages as you did. I really do find your book inspiring.
Isn't projection a crazy thing? I thought you might be getting a greenhouse like we are. But a shed on wheels!! How exciting. All you'll need is a hitch and a license and you'd have a caravan! But, seriously, will you use it for a studio or the garden?
Definitely have a go at working on multiple pages! It gives you more thinking time, which is great if you're not sure how to proceed...
A greenhouse, ahah! I have a chair in mine and sometimes sketch there. My new aquisition is actually a caravan! 😃 It's going to need some work but the plan is to use it as a studio so that I can splash paint around more than I can indoors. Can't wait!
Time to think; yes, multiple pages will suit me, and I'm also excited about doing variations on a theme as I deplore repeating myself as I used to do in my craft business.
Winters can be so long and I fantasize about an escape to the greenhouse with my sketchbook. (My husband is the gardener.) How great that you already have one, but a caravan! How wonderful! A space of one's own to escape to- ideal for a creative soul. We just nixed one because we don't have a truck to pull it, but oh, the price was right. My husband wants to renovate our old cabin (85 yr.old former garage) for a place to splash paint around. Have the best of fun, Julia!
Aww...thank you for coming back for another look! We've had a small amount of rain today - after a very hot week (for Scotland) it's been a relief. Can't wait for my caravan to arrive...not long now :-)
So glad you enjoyed seeing the sketchbook Carina, and I appreciate your lovely comment! I vowed I'd never do metal leaf again because it was so messy but I do like how it turned out :)
Love your beautiful sketchbook Julia!!
So Many pages!! Just Lovely.. using an old map book is such a great idea!!
You did all that in a weekend? Wow very impressive!
I especially love the very dark.. blue? Flower at the bottom left of one page:)

Lovely work and such a good idea to make a sketchbook with the finished drawings!
Thank you for visiting Sue! I'm really glad I decided to do it that way, and am planning making more handmade books soon :)

An outdoor Room of One’s Own:)
Actually somewhere I have a photo of Virginia Woolf’s little outdoor studio.. from when we visited twenty years ago...
Loved rereading your original video book and stories Julia.. on a very wet Sunday morning in New Zealand:):)
Caravans.. garages.. sheds!
They all sound fabulous:):)
Happy Sunday everyone

Where do you live in Scotland Julia??
I once worked the summer in Iona..and then lived through the winter in a beautiful old house near the port....:)
By “port” I mean the boat ramp lol...
Your sketchbook is fabulous, Julia! I gasped when I saw that page with silver on it. Gorgeous! 💛🧡🩷

Worth the effort! 😍
